The only thing I have to say is COOL!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work !!!! looks like you know what you're doing. I don't have any kids or grands at that age but am glad that some one is doing this that does. If I did I guarantee that I would be there by you're side helping.I know any one can help but it takes the look down every morning at that little ones eyes and say lets follow dad or granddad foot steps. That is what I have done to Rob Evan that I was not able to do this when I was a kid.He can SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

prints

I'm not sure what you mean buy one of these. which company? trophy kart pirated blue prints are out there for the chassis, but not any other componets such as a-arms, motor plates, just basic frame. baja extreme's i would say no as of right now. I was thinking along the same line. kinda like corr does the prolight or worrs. having specs to follow, but then having some freedoms to make changes.

I think it looks great so far. I like the neck restraint (little necks and a big old helmet) I am glad to see someone not just whining but stepping up to the plate and doing something espically something positive for kids a class for 6 to 8 year olds. I am going to half to get off my duff and start looking my boy will be 4 this year and I would look forward to building him a trophy lite type racer (with a buggy body of coarse)

rule book rough draft

Post by gochenour322 on Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:34 pm

Maora youth kart rules

I have started a draft of rules for the youth program that I have been working on. This is just a rough draft it is by no means complete, and I in no way have the last say on this. However I am trying to get the ball rolling in the right direction. So feel free to add ideas or give feed back negative or positive , just remember I started with just an idea and I am trying to make it not only positive for the kids, but also Maora. With it also being an easy class to tech and easy for parents to acquire the equipment.
Safety and fun will be the two most important goals for this class or classes of racing. I am trying to make it equal and fair for everyone. With out having to spend big $. But I am also trying to keep buba or Joe blow from bending up a chassis out of exhaust tubing , tying his kid in with a piece of rope with a helmet ten size’s to big . Because when his kid get’s hurt. That will be the end of the youth program and that would not be fair to the people who have put forth the effort to do it right. O.K. off my soap box here we go.

Safety Equipment

1 5 point harness that are up to date, they make narrow belts for kid’s

2 A approved racing seat ( there are many kinds we will have a approved list ) ultra shield, kirkey, lajoy, just a few

3 Approved helmet ( that fits ) not going to barrow dad’s you would be surprised full face or goggles with off-road helmet

4 Fire suit / gloves not go cart abrasion suit’s

5 Neck restraint

6 Arm restraints these are important for kids because they let go of the wheel or sometimes are not strong enough to hold on. A good fire suit has them built in.

7

Chassis

1 Spec chassis with a wheel base and track widths that are the same. No misfits or freaks
2 a main cage that is made from a min of dom tubing

3 must use hardware with a grade of 8

4 a min lbs rule

5 A list of safety wired components like steering, wheel hubs, and brake parts. Not all bolts but at least two per component. Or mandate mechanical lock nuts.

Classes
1 jr class age 6-8

2 sr class age 9-11

3 hvy class age 12-15

Engine
1 jr stock and sealed w/governor and a claim rule

2 sr stock internals with a small list of aftermarket options maybe a claim rule

3 hvy open 390 block

again this is not gosspel so don't take it that way please feel free to post up your ideas or comments, some areas are not complete yet because i haven't seen some stuff from other vendor's yet.

update on youth racing

Post by gochenour322 on Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:09 pm

I have been in contact with a guy who is building baja extreme karts. which are real close to a trophy kart. he seems alot more willing to work with us to get this off the ground. trophy kart had the attuide of here it is you buy what ever we want you to buy, so I stoped working with them and started looking somewhere els .we have e-mailed and talked several times over the last week. he is putting together a package deal for maora. which would include chassis / shocks/ body. buyer would finish kart and purchase motor from 1 source that we choose so the motors would be sealed for maora. I am thinking honda 390 right now because there are a ton of places to purchase these and he is willing to work with me on motor plates and clutches. this would be a mid hp motor but really reliable.and there are a ton of hop up parts for these . for the older classes. and rebuild parts are cheap. a whole top end kit is about $180 give or take brand new crate motors run about $600 or so . I would be willing to do the stock motor class tech and seal unless someone would like to do it. feel free to jump in here anytime. so that is where i am at right now. slowly getting there.

youth racing

Post by gochenour322 on Mon Jan 05, 2009 10:38 pm

I am working on it everday , I am not going to be able to attend banquet because of my son's race in oh. I have started on a rough draft of a rule book will get it posted asap. still waiting on some return e-mails from some outside stuff . hopefully sometime in jan I will have a chassis not a roller, but something for every one to look @. still working on power plants leaning towards honda, but this needs to be a group thing i would much rather be a racer's dad than a ring leader. anyone who has feed back or ideas please post them here. or pm me or spencer or any maora officer. i think eveyone is excited someone just needs to pull the trigger and bite the bullet. maybe if intrest keeps growing we can get our own space on the forum ?

Rusty are you going to have information on this kids class to share at the banquet? I have had a few calls and not sure what to tell people when they call.

Rusty watching them videos makes me madder than a 1 legged man in a butt kickin contest, madder than king coors watching the field pull out of site after turn 1. Where were these things when i was a kid? heck i think it looks like a blast even at my age. But personally i think this is the best idea brought to MAORA table in a long time. I have been talking to Spencer a lot about it and think we would be fools to not put every effort we can in to building this kids class. We have things for all ages except those under 15. With no class 11, 12, 7s,7x class making class track time would not be an issue. And if young kids are racing grand parents, aunts, uncles and so on would probably be coming thru the gate. Rusty I'm behind you 100% if anything i can do let me know. This will be the future of MAORA!!!!!!! cheers cheers cheers
